Product overview

Advil Liqui-Gels is an over-the-counter NSAID pain reliever and fever reducer. This version contains solubilized ibuprofen in a liquid-filled capsule. Each capsule delivers 200 mg ibuprofen; the liquid format does not change the labeled dose or safety precautions.

Uses

Provides temporary relief of minor headaches, toothaches, backaches, menstrual cramps, muscle aches, pain associated with the common cold, and minor arthritis pain. Also temporarily lowers fever.

How to use

For adults and children 12 years and older, begin with one capsule, repeating every four to six hours while symptoms continue. If one capsule does not relieve pain or fever, two may be used. Unless a doctor instructs otherwise, limit intake to six capsules over 24 hours. Use the lowest dose that works. For children younger than 12, consult a doctor. Food or milk may help if stomach upset occurs.

Important safety information

Ibuprofen can cause severe allergic reactions and serious stomach bleeding. NSAIDs also increase the risk of heart attack, heart failure, and stroke; excessive doses or prolonged use increase these risks.

Do not use if you have previously had an allergic reaction to a pain reliever or fever reducer, or immediately before or after heart surgery.

Consult a doctor before use if you have a history of stomach problems or bleeding, high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney disease, liver cirrhosis, asthma, or stroke, or take a diuretic. Bleeding risk is higher for people 60 or older, those using anticoagulants, steroids or other NSAIDs, and those having three or more alcoholic drinks daily during use. Ask a doctor or pharmacist about other medicines, including aspirin prescribed for heart attack or stroke prevention.

If pregnant or breastfeeding, consult a health professional. From 20 weeks of pregnancy onward, use only when specifically directed by a doctor.

When to stop and seek help

Stop use and seek immediate help for an allergic reaction or symptoms suggesting stomach bleeding, a heart problem or stroke, including vomiting blood, black or bloody stools, chest pain, difficulty breathing or one-sided weakness. Consult a doctor if pain worsens or continues beyond 10 days, fever worsens or continues beyond three days, or new symptoms, redness or swelling develop.
