The legacy of Starside Drugs (On Ning Pharmacy)
Starside Drugs began serving the Flushing community in 1980. Peter Koo later assumed leadership of the pharmacy in 1991, building on its neighborhood roots and commitment to patient care.
Starside Drugs has served the Flushing community for more than four decades. Peter Koo assumed leadership in 1991, continuing the pharmacy’s neighborhood focus under the Chinese name On Ning Pharmacy.
Under Mr. Koo's leadership, On Ning Pharmacy grew rapidly, opening several locations beyond the original Main Street store and serving the heart of Flushing. Its services expanded from prescriptions and OTC products to medical equipment, health products, and other convenient services.
Mr. Koo actively contributed to community development and public service. His work for Flushing's Chinese community earned broad support and led to his election to the New York City Council, where he represented the area.
Today, On Ning Pharmacy is known as Starside Drugs. We continue to operate with integrity, move forward with the times, and provide the community with better pharmacy services.

Peter Koo
Peter Koo took over An Kang Ning Pharmacy in 1991. Under his leadership, the pharmacy grew from its Main Street roots into a chain of locations across Flushing's core neighborhoods. In 2009, Koo was elected to the New York City Council, where he served three terms from 2010 to 2021, championing community projects including the Main Street sidewalk widening (completed in 2017) and the Flushing waterfront plan (approved in 2020). A longtime supporter of community causes, his charitable organization donated $100,000 to LaGuardia Community College and 20 wheelchairs to Elmhurst Hospital; in 2010 he received the Queens Republican Lincoln Award. After leaving the Council, he served as a senior advisor to the mayoral transition team and as Senior Advisor to the Deputy Mayor for Public Safety, and he currently serves as Deputy Commissioner of the Mayor's Community Affairs Unit.
