Vicks DayQuil & NyQuil Severe, 24 LiquiCaps pairs daytime and nighttime combination medicines for temporary cold and flu relief. Both contain acetaminophen and dextromethorphan; DayQuil adds phenylephrine and NyQuil adds doxylamine. The Severe daytime formula also contains guaifenesin; Severe nighttime adds phenylephrine.
Day and night doses
For ages 12 and older, the labelled dose is two LiquiCaps with water. DayQuil doses are spaced at least four hours apart; NyQuil Severe doses at least four hours apart. Follow each label when switching; do not take both together or add their separate daily limits.
Avoid duplicate medicines
Count every daytime and nighttime dose in your 24-hour total. Both supply acetaminophen; do not add other acetaminophen or combination cold medicines. Do not use with an MAOI or within two weeks of stopping one.
Nighttime precautions
NyQuil can cause marked drowsiness. Avoid alcohol, driving and machinery; sedatives can increase the effect. Ask a clinician about medical conditions, pregnancy and other medicines before use.
When to seek advice
Stop and seek advice for worsening symptoms, fever beyond three days, cough beyond seven days, new symptoms, rash or severe/prolonged sore throat. Suspected overdose needs immediate help even without symptoms. Keep at the labelled temperature, check the seal and store away from children.
